E. D. Brandon, Sr. was associated with Brandon Investments from 1952 until his death in 1979. Mr. Brandon, Jr. initiated its "Total Financial Planning" program. He also developed the firm’s Life Planning Programs which are designed to connect, interact with, and expand the values of financial planning. He is also Director of the Brandon Education Programs, which pioneered education programs for heirs.
He is one of the pioneers and leaders of the development of professional financial planning world-wide. He has been active in both speaking and in organizational development on a global basis. He earned the Certified Financial Planner Degree from the College for Financial Planning of Denver Colorado in 1982.
He is a member of the Financial Planning Association. He was Chairman of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards for 1989-1990. He served on the initial CFP Board of Standards from 1985-1990. In 1992 he was named the first Chairman of the Board of Affiliated Associations (World-wide CFP Standard Setting Organization). He is a Registered Principal with the National Association of Securities Dealers through Brandon Financial Planning, Inc. He holds the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Diploma in Agency Management designations from the American College. The International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, England named him to the Director-General’s Honours List for his contributions to Global Professional Financial Planning. He is active in providing financial education programs for students. Among his noteworthy talks are “A History of the Financial Planning Movement” and “History Alive in Memphis”. He and Oliver Welch have been commissioned to write a History of the Financial Planning Movement. He is also writing a History of Memphis, Tennessee
He is listed in "Who's Who In The World," "Who's Who In America," and “Who’s Who in Finance and Industry.” He is a member of Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, Memphis. He has taught an Adult Bible Class in the Presbyterian Church since 1956. He is writing a Christian Education Text. He is a member of the Downtown Memphis Rotary Club, The Economic Club of Memphis, and The Racquet Club of Memphis.
He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors in Philosophy from Rhodes College in 1950, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He did graduate work at Yale and Duke Universities, receiving his Master of Arts Degree from Duke in 1952.
He is married to the former Helen Holt Deupree and they have two sons, E. Denby Brandon, III, and Ray Brandon. They have five grandchildren, Elizabeth, William, Mary and Emma and Ben Brandon.
